A nod to a cabin cruiser, Villa Vento features a vaulted roof, cabins, and a deck, all swathed with glazing. The pearl white walls with a metallic tinge replicate the hull of a boat, creating a striking visual impact. The villa's interiors resemble those of a high-end motorboat, with wooden cladding, cabin-like beds, and portholes for windows. Every detail inside is meticulously designed to evoke the feeling of being on a boat.
Building Villa Vento was a challenge due to its unique design. The villa defies the traditional box form, with no external columns. Instead, the exoskeleton serves as the structure, creating a seamless and fluid aesthetic. The use of rounded and slated concrete elements, walls, and glass adds to the design's complexity. Timber and travertine elements further enhance the boat-like atmosphere, reminiscent of continuous surfaces found in boat interiors.
With a built area of 680 sqm, Villa Vento offers a staged arrival sequence, where visitors must cross a moat before entering. A bespoke sculpture of a whirlwind in a small fountain adds a touch of feng shui to the entrance. Inside, there are no traditional rooms but cabins, including two guest rooms with small, rounded windows and intimate bathrooms. The upstairs entertainment space resembles a grand stateroom, with glass walls thrusting outwards, reminiscent of a cruise ship. The villa also features a pool, jacuzzi, and a private pontoon on the canal.
Located on the tranquil eastern coast of Sentosa Island in Singapore, Villa Vento is part of the exclusive Sentosa Cove marina residential community. The construction of this stunning villa started in 2009 and was completed in 2016, due to the complexities of the design and challenges with the contractor.
Villa Vento has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2019. This award recognizes designs that exhibit outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating the best practices in art, science, design, and technology. Villa Vento truly stands out as a unique and innovative architectural masterpiece, offering a luxurious waterfront living experience.
